MAINTENANCE
January has been one long battle to get the Park cut.
As you will have noticed this January the Park is looking it’s worst in many years. All I seem to get are contractors and not Parks teams who at least have the machinery – mowers, tractors etc that work but the depot only has two tractors, sit on mowers and a lack of manpower and they are not being assigned to us.
With the rain upsetting cutting schedules, lack of competent contractors to come and cut I am not winning. Today – 3rd Feb – six brush cutters arrived (for 20 acres of Park!!!). I set them to start cutting below the tree line on the 2nd field with the idea of at least getting half of the Park looking OK. I am told they will leave at 3.30pm so they have a long way to go.
This morning – 4th Feb – I have been back at the Depot warning that the unkempt Park is now attracting crime and if they don’t do something more, fast, more crime and undesirables are going to be drawn to the Park. I was promised more brush cutters from the contractor!! You cannot cut that Park with brush cutters alone!!!
CRIME
The unkempt look of the Park is attracting the wrong sort of people. Last Friday (Jan 30th) a man was robbed while walking alone by the long grass below the Jungle Gym at 6.30pm. Apart from this being foolish, this is South Africa we live in, the long grass offers a hiding place. WALKERS PLEASE NOTE. STAY ON THE UPPER FIELDS WHERE YOU ARE VISIBLE. We found the man’s passport and returned it.
Today a man either drunk or high was shouting and waving his arms around near the play equipment frightening away mothers and children who vowed not to come back. We cannot allow this to happen to our Park. To have word spread that it is not safe.
PLEASE PUT THE ADT NUMBER – 086 121 2401 – ONTO YOUR PHONES and call if you are not happy about ANYTHING or ANYONE and please let me know – 082 784 1933.
We need to be pro-active. I need your help.
Rose Johnson.
