May 2021 News update

Richard Finlayson, a longtime member of FOFS, passed away on the 2nd June. We will miss him and his passion for the Park and all his input into our meetings.

JUNGLE GYM

The Jungle Gym exceeded our budget with the total being R15,000. This upgrade will last us another 5 years apart from minor issues like broken planks.

A big thank you to the donors who donated R1000 and more and also those who gave what they could. Every little helps to keep the Jungle Gym and other play equipment looking good and safe.

The R8000 from the Felix Schneier Foundation who have supported us on a yearly basis we used some of this as this is for the general running of the park and the various issues that arise during the year .

We will now turn our attention to the small Jungle Gym. I replaced plank today.

CLEAN UP/SQUATTERS

A group of squatters asked for black bags and did a clean up on Sunday from the North end down to behind PnPay. They have done this before.

Still no action on the Mayoral Petition submitted. The last was a commitment to a site inspection. I am told that social workers have been on the Bank just lately. There are now more women there and two sick older men have died.

DRONE

A man is flying a commercial drone on the first field. Huge. After initial complaints of scaring dogs and people, it seems OK with park goers now. He promised me photos of the Park and the Bank opposite but I am still waiting. These would be most helpful.

REQUEST

In view of the money we have spent on the park I have asked for 4 Plastic wood picnic tables with benches to replace the rotted ones on the first field and two for the main field. Jerome said he would log for replacements and new ones. Here’s hoping.
